Shawn's Education

Stephen F. Austin State University
Bachelor of Science Interdisciplinary Education, Mathematics
This degree has a lot of focus on problem solving and pattern recognition skills. It's primary focus was algebra as well as how to prepare children to learn algebraic topics.
Udemy.com
Colt Steele, The Web Developer Bootcamp
Colt Steele's bootcamp was a great learning experience for me. It solidified my growing comfort with HTML, CSS and Javascript. In addition, the course really got the point across on how to use Nodejs, the npm software registry, the CRUD method and Javascript libraries/APIs in general.
Shaun Pelling, Build Data Visualizations with D3.js and Firebase
Shaun Pelling, aka The Net Ninja, has a great YouTube channel that I have learned a lot from. I was having problems implementing D3 solutions in other courses so I decided to take this course to further my understanding.
Colt Steele, The Advanced Web Developer Bootcamp
I've been tackling this course when I am not working on my portfolio or updating any of my other projects. So far this bootcamp has really helped me to understand the asynchronous nature of Javascript. Ongoing - 70% completed.
freeCodeCamp.com
Full Stack Developer Certification
freeCodecCamp.org is both a project based learning and drill oriented learning experience. To earn this Full Stack Developer Certification I completed several smaller certifications totaling approximately 1800 hours of course work. The course started at the basics and worked to some relatively advanced topics in HTML, CSS, Javascript and associated libraries. I try to get to the messages boards a few times a month and give feedback on projects for other students.

Entry Level Software Developer

Currently, I am working as a Software Engineer for Revature. In this position I am primarily using Angular to develop and modernize existing code. Previous to my contract work at Revature, I had the wonderful opportunity to be able to stay at home and focus on the challenges that come with raising 5 kids for ten years. Before deciding to stay at home, I was a middle school math teacher for 3 years. I am no longer certified to teach but I do have a bachelor's degree in middle school math from Stephen F. Austin State University. I also served 4 years of honorable service in the United States Air Force as an aircraft electrician. I've linked my email and programming profiles below. Please contact me if you have any constructive criticism of my projects. Again, thank you for checking out my portfolio.
